Loam
Within Silica Sandport Inc.’s mines lies large deposits of Loam, a very useful building material comprised of fairly equal combination of three soil types: sand, silt and clay that has been utilized as a low cost input in Guyana’s construction industry.
Loam, being a highly compactible material that can be utilized for a number of different purposes, from road construction to landfill.
Additionally, while loam drains well, it holds moisture and nutrients needed for growing healthy plants and can therefore be used to strengthen the productive capacity of agricultural lands, especially lands with poor soil structure.
