Silica Quartz or Sand is made up of two elements – silica and oxygen to form Silicon dioxide (SiO2). The most common form of Silicon dioxide is quartz, which is a chemically inert and hard mineral, that broke down into tiny granules over time.
Aggregates are important constituents of concrete as they give body to the concrete and also reduce shrinkage. Aggregates occupy 70 to 80 % of total volume of concrete.
We have large deposits of Loam, a very useful building material comprised of fairly equal combination of three soil types: sand, silt and clay that has been utilized as a low cost input in Guyana’s construction industry.
Silica Sandport Inc. through its sister company, Pile Pro Inc., produces pre-stressed pre-cast concrete piles of varying lengths, sizes and strengths depending on the requirements of the job, for the foundation of bridges, buildings and wharves etc.
