Coarse Aggregates
Silica Sandport Inc. has extended its capacity horizontally and imports coarse aggregates of all sizes to the local market. By taking advantage of backhaul opportunities from the export of sand, SSI imports aggregate for large-scale projects at competitive prices.
Many types of construction materials, including concrete, asphalt, and mortar, utilize aggregates as key ingredients. Using aggregate materials for concrete reduces production costs and increases the resistance of concrete mixes. Aggregates make up around 60% to 75% of the volume of concrete.
The characteristics of the aggregates significantly affect the properties of freshly-mixed and hardened concrete – making it more compact, decreasing its permeability (which makes it more water-resistant), and modifying its heat retention values. To be able to cater for the variety of different uses of aggregate materials, SSI supplies a wide range of aggregates to accommodate our clients’ needs.
These characteristics make aggregate materials an indispensable ingredient when it comes to building and maintaining roads, sidewalks, parking lots, airport runways, and a range of buildings and roadways.
In addition to construction projects, aggregates can also be used in drainage, water filtration, and erosion control. They can also be used as fill material in site preparation and embankment projects.
