Silica Sandport Inc. partners wth 5’s programme with provision of a boat

Posted on September 19, 2019

THE students of Dora Primary School on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway will now be able to get to school on time, following the donation of a new boat and engine, along with life jackets.

Handing over the boat was Minister within the Ministry of Communities, with the responsibility for Housing, Hon. Annette Ferguson. In her remarks, the minister noted that the venture demonstrated the collaboration between the government and the private sector.

“It is significant when we can see stakeholders and business persons within communities like this come together to partner not only with the government but with the communities to aid in ventures such as this.”

Minister Ferguson further said that the government would have received and donated over 20 buses, 20 boats and more than 2,000 bicycles, to communities across the 10 Administrative Regions.

The donation, which falls under the David Granger Five B’s Programme, was made possible by the CEO of Silica Sandport Incorporated, Pandit Haresh Tiwari, who operates a company within the community that manufactures Silica Sand which is used in various manufacturing, construction, landscaping and beach projects.

Pandit Haresh Tiwari said it was a pleasure to donate the boat to the community that has given so much to his company. “I feel very pleased that our company has been able to assist the Dora Community in this very small venture. Most of our employees are from this very village and it is a privilege to demonstrate our corporate and social responsibility,” he said.

Vice-Chairman of the Region 4, Regional Democratic Council (RDC), Earl Lambert, reminded the students of the importance of education.

“Education is the key to success, education is the key to happiness, education is the key to getting out of poverty. It is important as children that you take in your education and remember this effort being made here today is to ensure you have access to an education.” (DPI)
